Motorola's newly announced Moto G9 has launched in India at ₹11,499 against the lights of Realme and Redmi the leading competitors in this price point. Moto has claimed this smartphone to be specifically designed and manufactured in and for India. Today let's take a look at the box contents and we will share our first impressions on the same.
UNBOXING:
The device is presented in typical Motorola style packaging. The box contains the device protected with a soft Silicon TPU case. It further come with some reading manual, a 20 watt fast charger, a USB Type-c cable, and a sim tray ejection pin.
DESIGN:
Our unit has Sapphire Blue colour. It gives a slight gradient finish. Middle part of the phone is Dark Blue in colour and darkens up towards the edges. The phone is thicker and bigger for average hands and weighs around 200 gms which will take some time to get used to. On the right hand side, we have the Google Assistant key, volume rockers and power button. Bottom, we have the speaker, primary mic and type-c port. Hybrid Sim tray is on the left, which can accommodate two sims together or one sim and a micro SD card, whereas headphone jack and secondary mic is on the top.
DISPLAY:
The phone has a 6.5 inch HD+ IPS LCD display. Although being a HD+ display, the screen quality is good and viewing angles are fine. Brightness of the panel is also descent and is visible outdoors. As I mentioned, the screen is fairly large which can provide you with a good multimedia experience but will require some time to get used to.
PERFORMANCE:
The phone is powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 662 SoC. It performs really good in normal tasks and should provide descent gaming performance. As of now, we noticed no stuttering or lagging issues. This only comes in one variant with 4 GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. RAM management is also good.
SOFTWARE:
It runs Android 10. Moto G9 offers you the best software experience in this price range due to the stock or vanilla Android. This phone has no ads or pre-installed bloat ware (junk apps).
BATTERY:
The phone comes with a huge 5000 mAh battery with 20 watt fast charging which is charging the fairly quickly. The battery life looks quiet good and will mention it in the full review. Well, it should easily last for 1.5 to 2 days with normal use.
CAMERAS:
Moto G9 comes with a triple camera setup at the back with primary being a 48 MP f/1.7 lens accompanied with two 2MP sensors for depth and macro photography. Front houses a 8MP shooter for selfies.
It captures natural colours and does not over saturate colours in the image. One problem that we noticed was that the images took 1-2 sec for processing after the image is captured. Portrait mode is good with fairly accurate edge detection and object separation for the front as well as back camera. Overall camera looks to be descent in the first look.
OTHERS:
G9 has NFC support , dual band Wi-Fi, has widevine L1 support and offers all other necessary sensors apart from magnetometer.
VERDICT:
The key selling point is its software whereas the hardware is quiet descent for the price. If you are used to custom UI like Mi UI or Realme UI then you should probably know more about stock Android. Overall the phone looks and feels good at the price.
