Moto G9 review after a week.

Moto G9 was my primary phone and have been using it since a week. So today we will share my experience and the pros and cons about the same. Before that, the Moto G9 is priced at ₹11,499 and comes in only one variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Our unit is of Sapphire Blue colour model.

DESIGN AND BUILD:

Moto G9 has a polycarbonate back with a gradient finish which is prone to scratches. To prevent it company has provided a soft silicon case in the box which is of descent quality. The phone is big and bulky which will take time to get used to. Rear side of the phone houses a triple camera which we will talk about in camera section and a fingerprint scanner with Motorola's logo embedded in it. Fingerprint scanner was very accurate and worked all the time.

DISPLAY:

G9 has a 6.5 inch HD+ IPS LCD display. Motorola didn't mention any protection so screen is recommended. The screen quality was good. In our usage we didn't find any issue.

PERFORMANCE:

The Motorola G9 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor and this phone is advertised as the first phone to come with this SoC in India. In our usage we never felt any lag or stuttering issue. Even games like Call Of Duty: Mobile can even run on very high graphic and frame rate option but we tested it medium and max settings and it ran smoothly without frame drops and no heating issue was detected. RAM management was fine and it used to keep apps in memory. We used the phone with adaptive performance setting turned on in the settings and did some improvement in overall RAM management.

CAMERA:

It has a triple camera setup with primary being a 48MP sensor which cannot shoot 48MP shots instead does a pixel binning and shoots in 12MP mode. One problem that we noticed was that the image preview or the viewfinder wasn't showing appropriate results. Preview of the image looks washed out and had no details or sharpness. But after clicking the image it takes 2 separate seconds to process it and the image quality of the daytime shots were good and had descent details when zoomed out. while zooming in the images softens and there is lack details and sharpness in the image. Image captured has natural colours and never used to oversaturate the pictures. Also has a Pro-mode where you can shoot much better shots if you know how to. Other cameras include 2MP depth and macro sensor. Portrait shots Captures had fairly accurate edge detection and we also adjust the background blur. Macro camera is below average and it had no details and also had focusing issues. For better macro shots just switch on flashlight. It will produce descent details and colours even focusing improves. 8MP front camera takes good selfies and you will not be disappointed with its performance for the price.

BATTERY:

G9 has a big 5000 mAh battery and also comes with 20 watt fast charging. With this big battery the phone lasts easily from 1.5 to days with normal usage and with heavy usage it can take us easily through a single working day. The 20 watt charger tops the battery pretty quickly from 20% to 80% but the rest 20% takes a lot of time hence the charging takes 2 hours to complete.

CALLING:

Call quality of the phone was fine, with full network coverage which we generally have in our area, the call and audio quality was good. But, calling for extended period of time might get uncomfortable to some people due to the size and weight of the phone.

SOFTWARE:

Android 10 with close to stock Android experience offers a ad-free and bloat-free experience which is a boon as other Chinese vendors with custom skin has ads built in the software which hinders with overall usage of the phone. Overall experience of the UI was very smooth. Moto has offered some extra features like attentive display which replaces notification LED and shows you the time and notification when you just pickup the phone and also can interact with the same. Dual chop to turn on flashlight and dual twist to turn on camera are some of the useful features. Overall the software features are good and useful.

VERDICT:

This phone doesn't touches the best phone title at this price point but when you look at the overall phone it's an all-rounder phone and does everything you throw at it without any hiccups. Should you consider buying this phone? The answer is you can consider buying this phone if you are looking to buy a phone under ₹12,000. You should look for the review of other phones at this price and buy what fits for you.

QUICK PROS AND CONS:

PROS:
- Good battery life.
- Descent performance.
- Clean and user-friendly UI.

CONS:
- Macro lens is not good.
- Camera preview needs improvement.
- Don't use 48MP camera to its full potential.

I will rate 8/10 for the device.
